Our coverage of upcoming EA game Dante’s Inferno continues. In an interview conducted by Hyper magazine with Dante producer Jonathan Knight, he reassured gamers that the development team were keeping as closely to the source material as possible. But to make a game out of it, they had to make Dante into a warrior.
“The fact that Dante fights for love in the game, just like he wrote for love in his lifetime, and Beatrice and the nice circles of Hell are the same in the game. It’s going to run at 60 hertz, which a lot of games don’t at next-gen. We’re going to be riding on the backs of monsters, we’re going to be really developing the holy powers of his cross that Beatrice gave him and combining that with the scythe in a way that it’s very true to the material [...]”
I get the feeling that he misunderstands the phrase ‘fighting for love’ just a tad. I am glad to see, however, that they will treat the cross Beatrice gave him with dignity. The trailer depicted him stabbing an undead creature in the head with it, which is not entirely unlike the witty dialogues Dante has with Virgil and the denizens of the Hell. Presumably he’ll light it on fire at some point. I wonder where the scythe came from, however. Perhaps Dante will take on the duties of Death while he’s at it. But how do you kill that which is already dead?

You kill death with life – one of the fundamental laws of Final Fantasy. C’mon!
