That’s sort of a return to the bad part of the cycle. At least as far as jokes are concernced.
The Melbourne Age‘s Jason Hill (of ‘Screen Play‘ blog fame) got a chance to talk to developers Visceral Games about their upcoming Dante’s Inferno game at the recent E3, and some new data were revealed.
* creature design is by Wayne Barlow, who performed a similar function on the Hellboy movies, and was a concept artist on Blade II, Harry Potter 3 & 4, and is attached to a film of Paradise Lost.
* Virgil will be available for background info and hints. Jonathan Knight, Creative Director of the game “He’s there as a narrator to tell you how Hell works, who’s who, and why things are as they are. He’s totally optional, you can hang around with him or skip him, it’s totally up to you. All of his lines come from the original poem, so it’s a great narrative tool.” I wonder if the original Dante wished he had the option of turning off Virgil’s sometimes drawn-out comments.
* There is also an interesting facet of gameplay regarding the characters Dante meets on his journey: “They all have great back stories, and you can read about them if you care to. From a gameplay perspective, you have a choice to punish or to absolve them. That choice to punish or absolve these characters has a long term impact on the way your character’s abilities develop over time.”
